Movember – Raising Awareness for Men’s Health

‘Flu Season Natural Protection Tips

Now that ‘flu season is upon us, with the change of weather and clocks going back, here are some top Green Daisy tips for keeping healthy this Season.

3. Homeopathic Remedies for ‘Flu symptoms: There is a homeopathic remedy that may help to nip a cold in the bud, if it is taken for the on-set of ‘flu like symptoms. One pillule or tablet can be taken once a hour for 3 hours or stop with improvement. If symptoms develop another remedy will be more suitable,  with remedies indicated that may address the sensation of heaviness; aches and pains in the joints or muscles; high fevers. Repeat a remedy as often as needed as long as it is helping, even every 15 minutes and stop with improvement. The fever is the bodies natural immune response to a virus. This may be unused creative energy, creative conflict, limited sexual pleasure or unexpressed sexual energy.

HRT is an individual choice for each woman. I recommend making an informed choice before embarking on any form of medical intervention. There are many approaches including homeopathy, Chinese medicine and acupuncture, cranial sacral therapy, psychotherapy, herbal and nutritional therapy, plus many more all of which provide support for women wishing to try natural approaches to the treatment of menopausal symptoms, if HRT is not desired. Homeopathic Secretin

The following Homeopathic Secretin Information is provided by Ainsworths Homeopathic Pharmacy.

The story of Secretin appears to be gathering pace as more parents respond to the success of Billy Tommey and other children treated with the injection of the pancreatic derivative.

However, the practical difficulties in both obtaining Secretin and having the injection administered are proving the largest barrier to most parents. One suggestion has been put forward that may provide an answer to the current situation. That is to administer a homeopathic preparation of Secretin.

Ainsworths have prepared this and it is now available for those who wish to try it. We would however make the following comments about this approach.

Firstly that there is no guarantee that the remedy will work on every child and Secretin certainly seems to favour the children with so-called leaky-gut symptoms.

We would stress that this has not been tested clinically for use in Autism. This is no different to the conventional Secretin injection. Homoeopathic remedies are by nature less harmful than conventional drugs and side effects are less of an issue compared to the problem of generating any effect in this case.

Secondly the effect may build up slowly rather than very suddenly (with the injection) since the dose is smaller. This would require the daily dosage of pills that are dissolved in the mouth for at least two weeks at a time.

We cannot be sure how much if any help can be obtained by pursuing this direction. We can only make it available for those who want to explore this approach. Update: We have received some feedback from parents using homeopathic secretin for at least two weeks and some beyond ten weeks. All report that their child is more voluble, in some instances this has included speech. In addition small but noticeable behavioural improvements have been observed, and teachers have noticed improvements in interaction with both adults and children. In all cases communication skills have improved to the point where the child has been able to participate in the family more.

These are obviously early reports but we hope that more parents will share their experiences so that we can feedback the extent to which the remedy can help in autism and hyperactivity.

Secretin information

The secretin that Ainsworths supply is manufactured from the porcine hormone. In the process it undergoes a series of dilutions which remove all trace of the original starting material. Hence there is no drug content and therefore no side effect to contend with. Its action is to provoke a response in the body by normalising the action of secretin. This is different from the injected hormone which attempts to achieve the same objective by introducing more into the body.

How does it work?

The latest view is that by neutralizing the acidic stomach contents as they pass through the small intestine, secretin allows normal digestion of food to occur. Dancing through the Menopause:

How dancers in general can safeguard themselves against health concerns associated with the menopause and continue to dance healthily, whatever their age.

“How is the menopause likely to affect the dancer and in your experience, what are the health concerns associated with the menopause, and which ones would especially apply to dancers?”

For the dancer, common symptoms associated with menopause will differ in intensity from individual to individual.

The adrenal glands provide vital hormonal support. During menopause if the adrenal glands are depleted, menopausal symptoms can be exacerbated. Emotional stress and anxiety as well as excessive exercise and physical over exertion, injury, chronic pain and insufficient sleep can lead to adrenal dysfunction.

Inability to think straight is sometimes a symptom associated with the menopause. For dancers needing to be on top mentally to remain focused on a performance this may be an issue.

Hot flushes and night sweats, again can interfere with a dancers’ ability to remain focussed during training and performances with lack of sleep causing mental depression and energy depletion.

Menopausal and pre-menopausal women can experience thinning of the outer urethra from lack of oestrogen. This can cause burning pain during urination and discomfort when moving, walking or dancing. This symptom can be mistaken for a urinary tract infection, leading to prescribed antibiotics when they are not required.

Women with a history of amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) especially due to low body fat, seen in dancers and athletes, are at greater risk of osteoporosis. However weight-bearing exercise helps to increase bone density.

In April 2005 I submitted a research paper on Gulf Related Illnesses, to identify the most indicated homeopathic remedies to support service men and women. I set out to discover whether homeopathic treatment would be a viable option in providing those suffering with post traumatic stress disorder and other gulf related illnesses with a better quality of life after active service.

Homeopathy is a medical system that treats the individual, however looking at gulf related illness as an “epidemic”, in this instance, where a group of individuals exhibit the same or similar symptoms as a result of a shared experience or influence, enables homeopathic practitioners to be able to identify a group of fitting remedies to bring relief.

A trauma may cause an onset of symptoms which the individual alone cannot break free of. Recurrent panic attacks and palpitations, for instance, may signify being stuck in a pattern, a response which may have served as a “fight or flight” response in a military environment but is no longer required. Homeopathic treatment can address symptoms to provide the system with the kick-start needed for the body to release whatever is causing the panic attacks.

To get the most from homeopathic treatment it is best to arrange a consultation with a qualified homeopath. An initial consultation lasts between and hour and an hour and a half; a remedy will be prescribed and a follow-up consultation (lasting approximately half a hour) one month later will allow the homeopath to assess response to the remedy, where treatment can be taken from there as required.

Homeopathic remedies can be taken safely alongside conventional medicine. The rule of thumb with homeopathic remedies is to stop if there is improvement or a shift of any kind.

Remedies for Anxiety, panic attacks and palpitations:

Panic attacks accompanied by heat and pulsating forehead and heart palpitations may be alleviated by indicated homeopathic remedies. For nightmares and night terrors after a traumatic experience or for difficulty getting to sleep, accompanied by anxious thoughts and restlessness with general weakness another homeopathic remedy may help and mean that pharmaceutical medication can be avoided for veterans wishing to get support for symptoms without having to turn to extended use of medication. One homeopathic remedy in tablet form can be taken every 15 minutes in an acute attack. Stop with improvement.

There are several homeopathic remedies that may provide relief for numerous symptoms associated with PTSD. For chronic complaints (those that have been experienced for 3 months or more) treatment with a professional qualified homeopath is recommended.

Homeopathic remedies recommended for both Colic and Teething especially accompanied by angry crying and the desire to be carried may be useful for supporting a baby through distressing teething symptoms. Give one tablet (which can be crushed in a spoon) as required. There may be a more suitable homeopathic remedy for a teething child who produces lots of green or yellow snot and is very clingy and weepy. For babies suffering with colic where they draw they knees towards their chest another remedy may help. Babies arching their backs with colic may respond better to one homeopathic remedy more than another.

Prostate care after the age of 50 is very important for men’s health, as 50% of men experience some form of prostate enlargement after this age and 70% of men experience this after the age of 70. There are homeopathic remedies that may be of huge value in prostate enlargement as well as preparations in herbal form. Saw Palmetto is often combined in herbal and mineral supplements to support men’s health. There are homeopathic remedies that may be useful for the constant desire to pass water at night and the loss of sexual power. For sexual dysfunction that is caused by underlying psychological issues it is recommended that constitutional treatment with a fully qualified homeopath is undertaken.

Damiana was originally used by Mexican Indians has a time-honoured reputation as an aphrodisiac. Natural herbal and Homeopathic remedies may be useful for sexual disorders that may be the result of stress, overwork and nervous debility. In homeopathic potency combination remedies may help to address the distress caused by impotence.

There are other herbal supplements and homeopathic remedies that may help to address stress relief; for sexual dysfunction; to maintain energy levels, mental performance; and to increase strength and mobility.
